Position Summary

Austin Peay State University invites applications for a Science Librarian at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a full-time, 12-month tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Director of Library Services. The successful candidate will serve as the liaison to the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, Agriculture, Geosciences, and Allied Health, and will be a member of the core library instruction team. Rank at appointment will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide information literacy instruction for general education and liaison areas.
- Collaborate with faculty in liaison areas to support teaching, learning, and research.
- Provide traditional and electronic general reference services.
- Serve as an embedded librarian and provide specialized research assistance in liaison areas.
- Participate in collection development for liaison areas.
- Promote library services and collections through outreach activities to liaison areas.
- Create and maintain relevant instructional materials and content using LibGuides.
- Contribute to library planning, goal setting, decision making, project management, and assessment.
- Participate in professional service and scholarly/creative activities required for tenure and promotion.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Master’s degree accredited by the American Library Association or international equivalent.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a life or physical science discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to provide information literacy instruction in a classroom setting.
- Strong interest in and enthusiasm for the provision of reference services, instruction, and outreach.
- Evidence of initiative, flexibility, and a strong, service-oriented work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a rapidly changing, learner-centered environment.
- Evidence of effective interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
- Beneficial to position: reference, instruction, and/or collection development experience in higher education; development of instructional materials using LibGuides; familiarity with a course management system such as D2L.
