Position Summary Information

Position Summary

This is a mid-level position under the direct supervision of the University Recreation administrative staff, Graduate Assistants, and Undergraduate Assistants.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Developing safe and effective individualized client fitness programs in accordance with current health and fitness standards and guidelines, taking into account personal goals, health history, current fitness level and any other pertinent factors.
• Assist with the development and promotion of the Action Plans program, to include the distribution of flyers and interest surveys, taking part in any demonstrations or any other promotional events that may occur.
• Assist with the basic maintenance and upkeep of the Foy Fitness & Recreation Center, including returning all equipment and accessories to their appropriate locations and reporting any malfunctions encountered while in the facility.
• Ensure that all equipment is properly cleaned and stored after each use.
• Keep abreast of current fitness and exercise trends, development and research.
• Provide thorough instruction and exceptional personal attention.
• Promoting and enforcing all University Recreation and Action Plans policies and procedures.
• Attend all personal fitness meetings and in services as set by the University Recreation staff.
• Ensure a safe environment for clients and patrons at all times.

Essential Functions

• Ability to develop and guide patrons through a safe and effective work out session in accordance with current health and fitness standards and guidelines, and patrons skill/fitness levels.
• Ability to maintain written documentation with University Recreation for each client.
• Ability to keep all scheduled client appointments, to include agreed upon appointments for finals week, fall and spring break and holidays.
• Ability to assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the facility and all fitness equipment by reporting malfunctions promptly and making minor repairs as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
• Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the APSU community and outside community members.
• Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making and interactions with people.
• Ability to make decisions, work independently and stay motivated and focused.
• Ability to follow APSU and University Recreation policy, procedures and emergency preparedness.

• Attendance and punctuality are essential to this position. Arrive 10 minutes prior to every scheduled appointment in order to be fully prepared and set up prior to the start time and able to greet clients as they come in.
• Ability to be approachable to patrons at times when not training, acting as a resource by providing answers to questions or assistance as requested.
• Ability to exemplify professionalism at all times particularly in regards to attitude, punctuality, public relations, appearance and personal hygiene.
• Ability to attend all staff meetings.
• Be available to work at least one 1-2.5 hour shift in the fitness center not training a client.
• Ability to maintain a certification by a nationally recognized and accredited organization, to include providing a current copy for employee records or, the ability to provide documentation of previous work experience in the field.
• Ability to maintain a current CPR/AED certification and provide an updated copy to keep on file at University Recreation.
• Keep a current Trainer Profile on file at University Recreation.

• Maintain a certification by a nationally recognized organization, to include providing a current copy for employee records and/or the ability to provide documentation of previous work experience in the field.
• Maintain a current CPR/AED certification and provide an updated copy to keep on file at University Recreation.
• Applicant is required to have a bank account for direct deposit of pay.
• A background check may be required.
