Position Summary Information

Position Summary

This is an entry-level student position under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director and Climbing Wall Managers.

Availability: Up to 4 positions effective August 2017

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Inspect, issue, and maintain climbing equipment; document unsafe equipment and remove it.
- Assist patrons with climbing equipment and belay climbers.
- Provide information, training, and supervision.
- Follow proper wall opening and closing procedures.
- Ensure the safety of all patrons utilizing the climbing wall; correct all unsafe practices or conditions immediately.
- Instruct skills and safety classes, administer tests, and certify climbers.
-Complete administrative paperwork during scheduled shifts.
-Provide first aid and/or initiate Emergency Action Plan in emergency situations.
-Assist in changing and marking of wall routes, as determined by supervisor.
-Complete annual blood-borne pathogen training.
-Perform general custodial and maintenance functions as necessary.
-Attend all scheduled meetings and in-services.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Ability to correctly tie knots and check for safety and usage.
- Ability to work at heights while checking climbing holds and wall durability.
- Ability to pass the University Recreation belay test.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making and personal interactions.

- Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
-Ability to follow APSU guidelines, policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness.
-Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community, and the public.
-Attendance and punctuality are essential to this position.

Physical Requirements
Required Minimum Qualifications

- Must be an APSU student enrolled at least 1/2 time.
- Minimum 2.0 overall combined GPA.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- A background check may be required of the successful applicant.
- Knowledge of indoor and/or outdoor climbing and climbing equipment or complete training in these areas when hired.
- Maintain and provide proof of CPR/AED/First Aid certification OR complete Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 6 months of appointment and provide proof of certification and maintenance of certification during appointment.
