Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Intramural Official is an entry-level position under the supervision of the Coordinator of Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs.

Availability: Up to 20 positions effective August 2017

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Typical tasks include but are not limited to:

- Attend all scheduled meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
- Work all scheduled shifts communicate with the Coordinator in a timely manner if unable to do so.
- Promote and enforce Intramural Sports and University Recreation policies and procedures in order to maintain a safe playing environment for Intramural participants.
- Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures, including medical, disruptive behavior, and weather-related situations.
- Remain visible and approachable to participants at all times and act as a resource by providing answers to questions or assistance as requested.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of sport-specific rules.
- Record scores, stats, and sportsmanship ratings as well as verify participant eligibility utilizing departmental records and systems.
- Assist with basic maintenance and upkeep of the facility and game site, to include picking up debris.
- Report equipment malfunctions or facility repair needs to the Coordinator.
- Complete other tasks as assigned in an efficient and thorough manner.

Essential Functions

- Ability to follow Intramural Sports, University Recreation, and University guidelines, policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness.
- Ability to maintain flexibility and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Ability to complete tasks and duties without direct supervision.
- Ability to work well and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals, as well as to demonstrate advanced conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to use sound judgment in decision-making and interactions with people.
- Ability to stay on feet for up to four (4) hours.
- Ability to run, jump, change direction, and perform other basic physically athletic functions.
- Ability to work between the hours of 5:30 pm and 11 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and potentially on Sunday.
- Ability to maintain confidentility.
- Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community, and the public.
- With respect to attitude, public relations, appearance, personal hygiene, and sportsmanship, professionalism is essential to this position.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential to this position.

Physical Requirements
Required Minimum Qualifications

- Must be enrolled as a student at APSU at least 1/2 time.
- Minimum 2.0 GPA (not applicable for incoming freshman).
- Maintain and provide proof of current CPR/AED and First Aid certification OR complete certification within six (6) months of appointment and provide proof of current certification and maintenance of certification during appointment.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- A background check may be required of the successful applicant.
