Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Director of Infrastructure Services reports to the Associate Vice President/Chief Information Officer and provides strategic leadership and operations management for the Network (Data/Voice), Server and Storage areas of Information Technology. Ensures the University’s technology infrastructure is designed to support new initiatives, assuring alignment with Information Technology and University goals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

•Provides leadership and guidance for the infrastructure area providing design/architecture, installation, maintenance, operation and support for the data and voice network services, servers, storage, data center and cloud computing.
•Forecasts technology changes impacting demand and reviews analytics of system and network utilization and availability to develop recommendations for future planning.
•Participates in construction planning and supervises technology related areas of new construction and renovation projects. Communicates with vendors, clients, management, and technology staff.
•Facilitates and manages vendor relationships for infrastructure services and projects.
•Prepares recommendations and effectively manages budgets for areas of responsibility. Negotiates technology procurement and contracts.
•Establishes policies, standards, practices, and security measures to assure effective and consistent information and operations.
•Develops and implements appropriate professional technical development training programs for employees insuring skills are current and support the achievement of Information Technology goals and objectives.
•Acts as performance manager for all direct reports including managing day to day performance, producing and communicating written performance evaluations, approving requested time off, and other points of compliance with Human Resource rules and regulations.
•Partners with Information Technology Leadership team to plan strategies and goals; develops strategic short and long term goals for the University’s infrastructure services.
•Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President/Chief Information Officer.

Essential Functions

•Ability to provide leadership and direction and manage people and projects.
•Ability to communicate effectively on both technical and non-technical projects, both verbally and in writing.
•Knowledge of internet, local and wide area network concept and protocols, fiber optics and other cabling technologies.
•Knowledge of enterprise server hardware and software systems to include the ability to manage virtual server technology, and enterprise storage and backup technologies.
•Knowledge of network and voice hardware and software systems, to include the ability to manage DNS, DHCP, file and print services, and network security hardware and software.

Physical Requirements

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Required Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
•A minimum of five years’ technical supervisory experience.
•Knowledge of networking and server/storage technologies.
-A background check will be required of the successful applicant.
