Position Summary Information

Position Summary

This is an intermediate-level student position requiring advanced training that a student may have acquired either while working in an entry-level student position or in a more complex non-student capacity. This position works under limited supervision of an APSU faculty or staff member. The Student Assistant will prepare the concert Hall for concerts, dance recitals, pageants, fashion shows, and other events.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Prepare the concert hall for concerts, dance recitals, pageants, fashion shows, and other events.
- Prepare the stage and the setting of lights and audio equipment as needed.
- Carry out technical functions during events with little or no rehearsal.
- Strike all sets, lights, and audio equipment.
- Set up the hall for its next use.
- Assist with maintaining the stage, lighting, and audio equipment used in the hall.

Essential Functions

- Availability to work flexible hours during the day, in the evening, or on the weekends.
- Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of technical theatre including stage lighting and sound reinforcement.
- Ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Ability to accomplish assigned tasks under pressure of a live performance with minimal dexterity.
- Ability to lift items over 50 pounds.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to lift items over 50 pounds.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Must be an APSU student enrolled at least 1/2 time.
- Minimum 1.8 overall combined GPA (not applicable for incoming freshman).
- Working knowledge of technical theatre—including stage lighting and sound reinforcement.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- A background check may be required of the successful applicant.
