Position Summary Information

Position Summary

This is an mid-level position under the direct supervision of the Office of Student Publications administrative staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with training and supervising student employees.
• Collect, post and maintain Outdoor Message Board announcements under supervision of coordinator.
• Collect and maintain liability waivers and other necessary forms for student staff members.
• Assist advertising manager with ad sales and identifying potential advertisers for all publications.
• Assist with and coordinate special events.
• Write press releases.
• Assist with documenting student staff and student worker office hours.
• Assist with gathering, compiling and editing information and design of publications produced by department.
• Report computer problems and request assistance from the Computer Help Desk.
• Maintain inventory records of photography equipment and serve as librarian for equipment by checking in and out equipment to photographers and ensuring each component is returned.
• Manage archives of the print edition of The All State.
• Help update and back up all Macs in the office each semester.
• Represent Student Publications at University events.
• Assist with planning and implementation of training for student staff members.
• Maintain records of student staff members’ scholarship requirements.
• Work with administrative assistant to ensure all advertising revenue is collected for The All State, New Student Guide and Student Handbook and Calendar.
• Reserve rooms for meetings and events.
• Assist with university processes such as work orders, record keeping, etc.
• Research trends and other issues as needed.
• Maintain updates of newspaper staff handbook.
• Make and answer phone calls.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Ability to effectively utilize computer technology, including Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop as well as the Mac platform.
• Excellent design, writing and editing skills.
• Ability to learn new skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work well with students and diverse populations.
• Professional attitude and behavior.
• Ability to cooperate, work well with all elements of the university community and be punctual.

Physical Requirements
Required Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience using Mac and Adobe InDesign software.
• Six months related experience.
