Position Summary Information

Position Summary

Tri-County Upward Bound attempts to improve the academic and social skills of rural, disadvantaged high school students who are potential first-generation college students. The Saturday Writing Instructor position is a part-time, three to five- hour per month assignment beginning September 2017.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Typical tasks include but are not limited to:

- Teach high school writing concepts to Tri-County Upward Bound students in preparation for the ACT.
- Prepare a lesson to be taught during two one-hour sessions.
- Supervise Tri-County Upward Bound students and effectively control classroom behavior.
- Monitor students in their work and report progress to Student Advisor.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Ability to communicate mathematical operations and concepts clearly and effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills and consistency with administering discipline.
- Ability to teach concepts using a variety of instructional techniques in order to accommodate different learning styles.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential to this position.

Required Minimum Qualifications

- Must be a student enrolled at least 1/2 time.
- Must have an overall combined GPA of 3.0 or higher unless you are a first-semester freshman (and you have no overall combined GPA).
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- A background check may be required of the successful applicant.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
